The surf cam, installed at the Chiton Rocks Surf Lifesaving Club, offers a preview of the surf conditions at Boomer Beach for its members and the surfing community. The beach is popular with surfers, and known for its dangerous rips, hence the establishment of the surf club in 1957 to keep beach goers safe during the busy summer season. During the winter, various surf competitions are held here as well as other spots along this popular part of the coastline. The area once sparsely populated with tiny beach shacks is now a haven for those seeking a "sea change" the ramshackle shacks now replaced by modern holiday mansions. Chiton Rocks is just 5Kms from the popular tourist destination of Victor Harbor in South Australia
