Cesenatico is a port town of about 20,000 people on the Adriatic coast of Italy. It is located in province of Forlì-Cesena in the region of Emilia-Romagna, about 30 km south of Ravenna on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. Cesenatico's port was designed by Leonardo da Vinci. History: Cesenatico was founded in 1302. It was considered part of the city of Cesena until it was granted independence at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1722, James Francis Edward Stuart (the 'Old Pretender' to the British throne) stayed in Cesenatico's Capuchin monastery. Main sights: Today Cesenatico is a popular tourist resort. The port-channel was built in 1500 after an original design by Leonardo da Vinci (originally planned to reach Cesena, some 15 in the interior). It is home to the Floating Museum of Marine History, where historic fishing boats are displayed in the sea.
