Schönengrund is a municipality in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden in Switzerland. As of 2002, it had a population of 470. The area of Schönengrund is 5.10 km². Schönengrund attracts tourists both during the winter and summer. During winter downhill skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing are offered. During the summer, hiking attracts tourists.
