Welcome to the Whitney Portal Store and Whitney Portal Hostel. The Hostel is located in Lone Pine at 238 South Main Street. We have shared rooms (4 beds per room) or you can rent the entire room. Phone: 760-876-0030 The store is located next to the Mount Whitney trail head and has operated by permit from the Inyo National Forest since 1987. At the store, we try to keep last minute supplies for hiking, camping, fishing, and related items for the portal visitors. The kitchen serves pancakes and burgers. Enjoy of the view of Mount Whitney or Mt. Whitney, which is the highest summit in the contiguous United States with an elevation of 14,505 feet (4,421 m). It is located at the boundary between California's Inyo and Tulare counties, just 76 miles (122 km) west of the lowest point in North America at Badwater in Death Valley National Park (282 feet (86 m) below sea level.
