Malcesine is a "comune" (municipality) in the Province of Verona in the Italian region Veneto, located about 120 km northwest of Venice and about 40 km northwest of Verona. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 3,498 and an area of 68.2 km².All demographics and other statistics: Italian statistical institute Istat. The municipality of Malcesine contains the "frazioni" (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Cassone and Navene. Location: Malcesine borders the following municipalities: Avio, Brentonico, Brenzone, Ferrara di Monte Baldo, Limone sul Garda, Nago-Torbole, Riva del Garda, Tignale, and Tremosine. Malcesine lies on the shores of Lake Garda, the most frequented and biggest lake in Italy. Landmarks and attractions: Its most prominent landmark is the Castello Scaligeri, which has 14th-Century fortifications and an older medieval tower.
