Wendelsheim is a local municipality in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is located in the heart of Germany's largest winegrowing area Rheinhessen, 10 kilometers to the west of Alzey. The village is surrounded by two brooks what fostered the settlement of several water mills in the late Middle Ages. Viniculture is still an important economic sector nowadays. History: As "Wenilsheim" it was documented for the first time in 766 in the Lorsch Codex. Though celtic vestiges indicate a considerably anterior cultural history. In the Middle Ages Wendelsheim was intermittently reigned by the lords of Calw and a nobility called "Wildgrafen" (Deerlords). During the German Mediatisation the enire district was assigned to the Grand Duchy of Hesse.
