Tawas City is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 2,005. It is the county seat of Iosco County6. Geography: *According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.6 km²), of which, 1.7 square miles (4.4 km²) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.1 km²) of it (20.47%) is water. *It is considered to be part of Northern Michigan. Major highways: * US 23 runs along the Lake Huron shore, and is a proximate connector to I-75, which would be an approach to the city from the south. It has been designated the Sunrise Side Coastal Highway, and runs along (or parallels) the Lake Huron shore. * M-55 is one of only three state highways that extend across the U.S. state of Michigan's Lower Peninsula from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan.
